Bing UK Goes Live
Posted November 15th, 2009 | in Lead Story, Microsoft, News | No Comments »Despite previous reports that Bing UK had been delayed, Microsoft has gone ahead and announced that it’s out of Beta. As if to show how confident Microsoft is, Bing UK went live on Friday 13th!
The main feature of the UK version of Bing is localisation. For example, searching for “Birmingham” gives results relevant to the West Midlands rather than Alabama. In addition the Bing search results include sections for Birmingham Airport, Birmingham Jobs, Birmingham Hotels etc.
Ashley Highfield of Microsoft:
Bing is ready for the UK consumer, with our revolutionary way of searching the Internet proving very popular. Features such as Categorized Search, Twitter and Visual Search are providing a different and intuitive experience, and are enabling us all to make informed decisions and discover more of the web – faster.
