No Google Caffeine During The Holidays
Posted November 10th, 2009 | in Google, Lead Story, News | No Comments »Some while back Google announced the Caffeine project, a new search architecture to improve the size and speed of their index.
Changes to Google always make webmasters nervous, especially at this time of year: for many sites selling real world goods or online advertising space this is a vital period. The idea of a completely new infrastructure being rolled out just before the main Western holiday season is a worrying thought.
Fortunately it seems that Google is being unusually sensitive. Matt Cutts reports that Caffeine won’t be implemented in full until after the holiday period. Instead the new index and infrastructure will initially be migrated from the test sandbox to just a single live data centre for live testing. The full rollout isn’t expected until “after the holidays are over”.
Webmasters around the world are probably sighing with relief.
